Start Law School Ahead — Not Catching Up

The Elite 1L Survival Package

Your first year sets the tone for everything that follows — your grades, your options, your bar results. This package gives you the structure, frameworks, and feedback to build it right from the start.

We’ll confirm fit and next steps — no commitment.

Why 1L is harder than it needs to be

Most 1Ls fail their first exams not because they didn't study, but because they studied the wrong things in the wrong way.

Law school exams are unlike anything you've encountered before. Professors don't test whether you understand the material — they test whether you can apply it under time pressure to a fact pattern you've never seen, spotting every issue, organizing your analysis correctly, and writing in a format that earns points with the specific professor grading your exam. No one teaches you how to do that. You're supposed to figure it out by osmosis.

The students who figure it out early get the best grades. The students with the best grades get the best opportunities — law review, moot court, the summer associate positions that lead to offers, the clerkship applications that get taken seriously. The students who figure it out late spend 1L playing catch-up in a curve-graded system where catching up is structurally difficult.

There's also a longer game most 1Ls don't think about in their first week: the black letter law you learn in 1L is the same black letter law tested on the MBE. How you learn the rules now — whether you internalize them in a format that will translate to bar prep or have to relearn them from scratch in 3L — matters more than almost anyone tells you at the start.

The Elite 1L Survival Package is built to get you ahead of both problems at the same time.

Why most 1L study materials are setting you up to relearn everything for the bar

Here's something commercial outlines and most law school study aids won't tell you: the way they teach the rules isn't the way the bar exam tests them.

Commercial outlines are written for law school exams — for the idiosyncratic way your specific professor frames issues and grades answers. They're useful for December and May. They're not built around the precise, standardized rule statements that the Multistate Bar Examination uses to test the same subjects you're studying right now.

The result is that most law students learn the rules once in 1L, forget them, and then relearn them from scratch in bar prep — often discovering that the version they learned in law school and the MBE version are meaningfully different.

The outlines included in the Elite 1L Survival Package are different. They're written to MBE rule statements — the specific, tested formulations of black letter law that the bar examiners use. That means when you learn Contracts in 1L, you're learning it in a format that will pay off in December, in May, and again when you sit for the bar. You don't relearn. You reinforce.

This is the most underutilized advantage available to a 1L student, and almost no one takes it.

Choose the level of support that fits where you are

The Elite 1L Survival Package is available at two tiers depending on how much hands-on support you want alongside the outlines.

Tier 1 — The MBE-Aligned Outlines Bundle

For students who want the right foundation and a framework they can build on independently.

The Outlines Bundle gives you the complete set of black letter law outlines for your 1L subjects — written to MBE rule statements so you learn the law in the format that will serve you through law school and into bar prep.

What's included:

  • MBE-aligned black letter law outlines covering the core 1L subjects — Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Property, and Constitutional Law. Each outline is written around the precise rule statements tested on the MBE, organized for both exam application and long-term retention.
  • These aren't commercial outlines repurposed from someone else's materials. They're written by a Florida Bar-admitted attorney who built them specifically around how the MBE tests these subjects — so the rule statements, the exceptions, and the analytical frameworks are calibrated to what actually matters on the bar, not just on your professor's December exam.
  • Delivered digitally — emailed directly to you as PDFs upon purchase, so you have them before your first week of class.

Ideal for: students who are self-directed and want the right materials, students who want to supplement their law school study group, students who are budget-conscious and want to start with the outlines before committing to full tutoring support.

Tier 2 — The Full 1L Survival Package

For students who want structured, personalized support throughout the entire year.

Everything in the Outlines Bundle, plus the full one-on-one tutoring and strategy support that the package was originally built around.

What's included:

  • The complete MBE-aligned outlines bundle — all subjects, delivered digitally before your semester begins.
  • One-on-one subject tutoring in your core 1L courses, focused on how professors actually grade — not just the doctrine, but the exam technique that earns points. Sessions are tailored to your specific professors, your specific course materials, and the specific way your school's exams are structured.
  • Exam strategy and issue-spotting drills — practice breaking down fact patterns, organizing IRAC analysis, and writing under time pressure in a way that translates to exam performance. This is the skill most students develop too late and wish they'd developed earlier.
  • Outlining and study plan support — help building working outlines that integrate with the MBE-aligned outlines and a weekly study plan that keeps you ahead of class, not behind it.
  • Ongoing check-ins and accountability — regular touchpoints throughout the semester to adjust your plan, troubleshoot specific classes, and keep you on track through the pressure points — reading week, finals, the post-exam debrief.

Ideal for: students who want maximum support and accountability, students aiming for top grades and law review consideration, students who want to go into 1L with a clear plan and someone in their corner throughout.

For 1Ls who refuse to wing it

Both tiers of the package are built for students who want to treat 1L as the foundation of a long legal career — not just a year to survive.

You're aiming for more than 'just pass.' You want real options after 1L — law review, moot court, a strong summer position, a clerkship application that gets taken seriously. Those options are largely determined in the first year, and the students who get them are the ones who built the right foundation early.

You want to learn the law once, not twice. You've heard about bar prep. You don't want to spend the summer after 3L relearning everything from scratch because the way you learned it in law school didn't translate. The MBE-aligned outlines solve that problem before it starts.

You're willing to work — you just need structure, not more noise. Law school produces enormous amounts of material and very little guidance about what to prioritize. You need someone to help you figure out what actually matters, in what order, and how to approach it.

You'd rather fix issues now than explain them later. A weak first semester is hard to recover from in a curved system. Getting the right support at the start is far easier — and more effective — than trying to repair a GPA that's already taken a hit.

Step 2 – Custom 1L Plan
Step 3 – Weekly Execution

We talk through your school, your schedule, your professors where known, and your goals. This determines which tier is the right fit and exactly how the package should be configured for your situation. If the outlines-only tier is the right call for you, you'll hear that — not a pitch for the full package.

Receive your outlines and custom plan. Your MBE-aligned outlines are delivered digitally immediately after you enroll. If you're in the Full Package tier, your custom study plan — built around your actual course load, your professors, and your schedule — is developed in the first session so you start the semester with a clear structure rather than improvising.

For Full Package students, regular sessions through the semester keep you ahead of the material, working on exam technique, and adjusting your approach as you get more information about what your professors are actually testing. Check-ins are structured around the pressure points in your semester, not just scheduled for their own sake.

About the MBE-aligned black letter law outlines

The outlines in this package were put together by Ashley M. Cornwell, Esq. — a Florida Bar-admitted attorney who built them around one specific goal: ensuring that the black letter law you learn in 1L is the same black letter law you'll be tested on when you sit for the bar.

The law in these outlines is black letter — the settled, tested rules that have been consistently examined on the MBE. They're not filled with academic commentary, circuit splits, or edge cases that don't appear on the exam. They're written for application: organized around the rule statements the bar examiners use, structured for issue spotting, and designed to be learned once rather than relearned later.

Most law students don't connect their 1L study materials to their bar prep until they're sitting in a Barbri or Themis session in the summer after 3L and realizing they're essentially starting over. These outlines close that gap from day one.

Common Questions About the 1L Survival Package

What subjects do the outlines cover?

The current outline set covers the core 1L MBE subjects: Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Property, and Constitutional Law. These are the subjects that appear on both your 1L exams and the Multistate Bar Examination so learning them in MBE-aligned format pays off at both stages.

How are the outlines delivered?

Digitally, emailed directly to you as PDFs upon enrollment. You have them before your first week of class and can access them on any device throughout the year.

Are these the same as commercial outlines I can buy elsewhere?

No. Commercial outlines like Emanuel's or Examples & Explanations are written for law school courses and professors. These outlines are written to MBE rule statements — the precise formulations tested on the bar — which means you're learning the law in a format that will serve you through 1L, through your remaining law school years, and into bar prep. That's a meaningful difference.

How quickly can I start?

For the outlines tier, immediately upon enrollment the PDFs are delivered as soon as you sign up. For the full package, we can begin as early as before your first week of classes. Most students get the most value by starting before the semester begins so the structure is in place from day one rather than being built reactively.

How do sessions fit into a heavy 1L schedule?

Sessions are scheduled around your class times and reading loads and are structured to supplement your existing work rather than add to it. The goal is to make your study time more efficient not to add hours to an already full schedule.

Is this confidential?

Completely. Your participation, the content of your sessions, and any materials you share are held in strict confidence. Law school is competitive, and that's nobody's business but yours.

Does this replace commercial bar prep?

No — and it's not designed to. A commercial bar prep course is what you use in the summer after 3L to prepare for the bar itself. This package is for 1L. The MBE alignment means you'll enter bar prep with a stronger foundation in the subjects you studied in law school. It's not a replacement for the bar prep process, but a significant head start going into it.

Can I start with just the outlines and add tutoring later?

Yes. If you want to start with the Outlines Bundle and see how the semester goes before committing to full tutoring support, that's a reasonable approach. The full package is available at any point if you decide you want more structured support.
